| Ten minutes of your time for my thesis? |
[21 Jun 2008|10:59pm] |
Dear fanfic authors,
first of all I’m sorry if OT posting isn’t allowed in this community, but there’s no other way for me to do this; just delete this if it isn’t appropriate.
I’m a fanfic reader and occasional fanfic writer myself, so what did I pick for my thesis in communication sciences? Fan Fiction, of course. I designed a survey to find out more about our writing habits and media use; it takes about 10 minutes to complete.
If you could go here and fill it out, I’d be forever grateful. Of course I’ll publish some of the results at my journal in about a month or two, so you’ll know what happened with your answers. The survey is completely anonymous; I have no way of finding out who gave which answers.
Please, please help a fellow fan out. It’s only ten minutes for you; it’s a very important part of my work for me.
This has been cross-posted like crazy, and I'm sorry for spamming you guys, I'm just a little desperate, too.

THE SCI-FI FRIDAY FRIENDING MEME!
Even if you're a fan of just one of these great shows, look for fellow fans of THAT show! XD

| Challenge: New Opportunities |
[07 Jan 2006|01:43am] |
So, the gang's all here. And it is, as far as I can tell from watching tonight's ep, it is the fuck ON.
I'm talking BSG 2x11. I'm talking the new opportunities. I'm talking new combinations of characters and opportunities.
That's what we're about this week. For those up to date with North American airings, bring us a thousand words of some new friendship, bond or fucktoy opportunity that didn't exist before 2.10. Cut it like a good girl, but there is a dividing line and it is time to change. And it has.
Even with existing characters. Give us the new. Give us the switch up. Give us what's been fucked.
If you aren't watching with us, then give BSG1K 1000 words of your favorite character with a new opportunity.

| 12/23/05 CHALLENGE- Wip Amnesty/Letter |
[23 Dec 2005|02:34pm] |
First off, Pretty new bsg1000 header. Shiny. :)
Second, in order to make things easy for you, this week's challenge is to hack out and polish off 1000 words of any current BSG wip you have. Chances are you have a fic or two mouldering on your hard drive, and chances are at least 1000 words of it are readable. Pull out a 1000 scene/moment/section/whathaveyou and shine it up enough to stand on its own, then post it here. :) Feel free to toss in Authors notes (behind the cut) where it came from, the status of the story, etc... or tell us nothing at all.
If you don't have 1000 words of BSG goodness (or lameness) hidden away in a directory, your instructions are simple. Pick two characters who know each other but are separated as of 2.10 (or 1.13, if you haven't caught up yet). First person, set directly after Pegasus (or KLG2). No spoilers past 2.11 please, but if you absolutely must, please mark them clearly. Doesn't matter if the person doesn't actually have paper and pen, or whether they would/could send it. People can compose letters in their minds.
And feel free to do both if you are so inclined.
( The rules remain relatively flexible as always. )
And... there we go. It's good to be back. Are you psyched? I'm fucking psyched. I hope a few of you come back and participate in bsg1000 this semi-season. :)

Contrary to popular belief, BSG1000 is not dead. I believe the term is "flaked out on." There will be a challenge issued later on tonight. We're two weeks out from the premiere, and I'd like to work a few kinks out before ... OMG ONLY TWO WEEKS. *breathe*
In honor of the reopening, I'd like to work on a new header. If anyone could point me in the direction of a good source of screencaps from season 2.0, I'd be ever so grateful.
*rubs hands in anticipatory glee* Anyone else starting to bounce in their seats a little? I am, and I don't even know any spoilers

| Something to Hold Onto |
[12 Aug 2005|11:55am] |
Word Count: 1001 Rating: PG Challenge: Squee. This isn't total squee, but it has some moments of re-connection & hope. Spoilers: Everything through "Resistance" General Disclaimer: I claim no property rights in any BSG materials, and am making no money, and thanks for the go-ahead, Ron Moore!
Summary: Kara comes home, and has 2 conversations. I'm not so sure how well this meets the challenge, but it's fairly cheerful and it's going to be Jossed very soon, I think, so I'm postin'!

Word Count: 1096 Rating: PG-13 Challenge: Squee, bsg1000 Spoilers: Everything through "Resistance" General Disclaimer: Ron Moore is awesome, the show belongs to him, I'm staying far away from putting "Battlestar Galactica" and "money for me" in the same sentence. Besides, he gave us permission to do this. So there.
Summary: She understands, of course. It's always about the big picture, the Greater Good, and he's such a naïve idealist at heart.

Disclaimer: Not mine. Rating: er... 18+ language, sex. Pairings mentioned: Kara/Zak, Kara/OC Length: 1,000 Notes: This was written for bsg1000's current challenge of 'squee'. I'm not sure it's precisely happy, but, er. Here's hoping this doesn't read like every other Kara Paints fic. sigh. Title nicked from Kate Bush's Breathing. Summary: She only paints when she's drunk. Er, and I really am going to write something bouncy... Hrm.

| BSG Challenge: Week of July 29, 2005 |
[30 Jul 2005|12:08am] |
Squeeeee. That's what I felt after tonight's ep, and that's what I want to read about.
And damnit, that's what I'm going to write about (not right issuing a challenge and not responding yourself.
I want you to take a character of your choice, either as they are at the end of episode 3 (or as AU or spec as you want to get after those events), or at the end of whatever the last episode your Austrailian (Senegalese, whatever) ass saw.
I want you to take that character and give them a moment of squee. They might not use that word or think about it in those terms, but big or small, I want some hysterical laughter or chills or sly, shy grins. I want some squee injected into the lives of our poor, infinitely frakked characters.
And I want it in 1000 words.

| BSG 1000 is BAaaaaaaaack. :) |
[23 Jul 2005|01:47am] |
Um, yeah. Sorry about that. I had to go of the grid a while. ;) Anyway, this month's challenge isn't too much of a challenge. It's a wild card. Open season. Give me a 1000 words. Give me a drabble that just got jossed or something about how pretty Lee looks soaked in sweat in blood. Just get those juices flowing for me. :) Don't forget to spoiler tag, lj-cut and
Also, for you more visual type, I'm opening the picture portion of BSG 1000 too. Open topic this week, and the only constraints on pic portion is that it has to be 1000 pixels, width and height added. 500x500, 800x200, 50 by 950 (a reeeeeeeal long colorbar?) Just give us a pic or two.
Um, yeah. Not expecting too much in the way of participation yet, given the long time off, but I hope you guys are all enjoying the new season as much as I have been.

I've given in. There needs to be a challenge. My brain is melting in bad fic.
Therefore.
Hrm.
Open a dictionary to a random page, point at a word. Write 1000+ words using that word as inspiration, guide, or simply something someone says.
